Description

In this Episode of the Men of Bronze podcast, I sit down with Former #1 World Ranked Boxer, Syd Vanderpool. Syd is from Kitchener, Ontario Canada, and is a southpaw fighter. He retired in 2005 with a record of 35 wins and 4 losses with 23 ko's. Vanderpool fought world champions such as Bernard Hopkins and Jeff Lacey and had a victory over Glen Johnson before his retirement. Syd is a husband and father of 3 children, and he strives everyday to be the best husband and father he can.

After retiring from professional boxing, Syd created a successful boxing gym, now called Syd Fit, where he sits as the CEO, in his hometown of Kitchener. According to Vanderpool, success is not about how great of a boxer one can be but is measured by the quality of meaningful relationships acquired while working toward a goal.

Topics Discussed in this Episode:

  • Moving to the US as a 19 year old to chase the dream of professional boxing
  • Making the switch from a boxing career to business owner and entrepreneur.
  • The truth about the behind scenes work of being an “Overnight Success”
  • The importance of having Coaches and Mentors in your life.
  • Keeping a healthy marriage
